Metrosideros Red and Gold is a lovely Pohutukawa shrub and is renowned for its eye-catching foliage and flowers. It carries foliage that is variegated cream and dark green. This is complemented with masses of small, red flowers through summer that are great for attracting birds. It typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide, though can be trimmed to smaller sizes. Best results with this Pohutukawa variety are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of poor soils, dry periods, frost, and coastal conditions but will benefit from being protected while it is establishing.
