“Obsession” is a compact, evergreen shrub grown for its colourful foliage. New growth from spring through autumn is bright red and sits beautifully against the older, dark green foliage. The red tones disappear as the foliage ages, but red tones will reappear through winter. Small, white flowers are borne in spring and result in red berries that last into winter. This evergreen typically grows to 60 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, some wind, short periods of dry, and coastal conditions. “Obsession” is a tidy plant and ideal for rock gardens, mass planting on a bank, maintaining in a container, adding to a border or mixed planting, planting around outdoor living areas such as pools, or including anywhere vibrant colour is desired. The versatility of this plant makes it popular with landscape designers.
