“Cherry Red” is a shrub that is grown for both its flowers and foliage. This vigorous plant grows densely with branches holding long, dark green leaves. In summer the plant is adorned with showy clusters of dark red flowers, which sit neatly above the foliage. It typically grows to 2.5 m tall and 2 m wide, but can be trimmed as necessary. This variety grow best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, and is tolerant of coastal environments, moderate frost, and dry periods. “Cherry Red” makes a great informal hedge and looks impressive in mixed plantings, as well as in cottage gardens. Please note: all parts of the plant are poisonous.
