Pentapterygium serpens is an unusual, yet interesting plant. It carries long and arching stems that become adorned with tubular, scarlet red flowers from spring through summer. These result in small, purple berries result in autumn. The leaves are small and sit neatly on the stems of this sprawling shrub. It typically grows to 60 cm tall and 1 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of cool climates, frost, and dry periods once established. This plant is commonly used to add interest to the garden and will certainly provide a talking point. It is often maintained in a container, included a mixed planting, planted around outdoor living areas, or mass planted around larger trees and the like.
