“Mountain Fire” is an attractive shrub grown for both its foliage and flowers. This compact and rounded shrub produces pink tinged buds that open into white, urn shaped flowers. The flowers are mildly fragrant and literally transform the plant from winter through spring. New foliage is a brilliant red colour and ages to dark green. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and 1.2 m wide, performing best when planted on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun or partial shade. Leaf colouring and flowering will be reduced as the levels of shade are increased, however. It is hardy to moderate frost once established. “Mountain Fire” makes for a superb specimen in a small garden and is often included in a mixed planting. It is also well suited to being maintained in a container, using to border an entrance, or for planting around outdoor living areas.
