Japanese Pieris, Pieris Shojo, Pieris japonica Shojo
Pieris Shojo, commonly known as the Japanese Pieris, is an attractive shrub grown for both its foliage and flowers. This compact, rounded shrub produces pink tinged buds that open into pink, urn shaped flowers. They are borne in pendent like clusters on graceful stems and eventually fade to white. The flowers are mildly fragrant and are produced from winter through spring. The new foliage is bronze but matures to be become leathery, glossy, and dark green as it grows to 1.5 m tall and 1.2 m wide. Pieris Shojo makes for a superb specimen in a small garden and is well suited to growing in a container, adding to mixed plantings, formal gardens, for border planting, or planting around the barbecue area.
