Pittosporum cornifolium Details

Pittosporum cornifolium, commonly known as Tawhirikaro, is a NZ native shrub grown for its foliage and flowers. It features glossy and lush foliage which is light green when young and ages to become dark green. Red flower buds open in spring to reveal small and fragrant, yellow flowers. These result in seed capsules that split open in autumn and are great for attracting birds. This evergreen shrub typically grows to 2 m tall and 1 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of reasonable shade, cool climates, periods of dry, and frost once established. Pittosporum cornifolium is commonly included in a mixed planting, added to a woodland garden, used in native plantings, or included in riparian plantings.
