Pittosporum crassicaule is a twiggy, bushy shrub native to NZ. It bears rigid branchlets with small brown-green leaves with the leaves becoming larger as the plant matures. In spring it bears small, maroon-coloured flowers amidst the leaves. This hardy evergreen typically grows to 2 m tall and 1 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. It grows best on a well-drained site in full sun with good moisture during dry periods. It is hardy to frosts, wind, coastal conditions, and cold climates. Pittosporum crassicaule is commonly used in mixed plantings, hedging, alpine gardens, or anywhere something a little different is wanted.
