Pomaderris kumeraho (Kumarahou, Golden Tainui)

Growing Pomaderris kumeraho Successfully in NZ

Pomaderris kumeraho grows best in warm, sheltered sites with full sun and free-draining soil. It prefers northern New Zealand climates but can thrive elsewhere if protected from heavy frost. Avoid waterlogged soils and overly shaded areas, as these can hinder flowering and growth. Plant in spring or autumn, water regularly during establishment, and apply mulch to retain soil moisture. Light pruning after flowering helps maintain shape and encourages denser branching.

Pomaderris kumeraho Care Tips

Pomaderris kumeraho is low-maintenance once established, but benefits from regular care in its early stages. Water young plants consistently, especially during dry spells, to support healthy root development. Mulch annually to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds, keeping mulch clear of the stem. Lightly prune after flowering to shape the plant and promote fuller growth. Avoid heavy frost and ensure it's planted in a sunny, sheltered spot for best flowering performance. Fertilise in spring if growth appears slow.
