Pseudopanax Black Ruby Details

Pseudopanax lessonii Black Ruby is a NZ native shrub grown for its dark coloured foliage. It features broad and leathery leaves which are bronze-green but darken to black-red during winter. The foliage on this evergreen is held somewhat densely as it grows to 3 m tall and 1.5 m wide. It can be trimmed as necessary and will perform best when planted on a well-drained site in full sun. In partial shade it tends to grow with an open habit and colouring is less intense. It is tolerant of wind, coastal environments, dry periods, and frost once established. Pseudopanax Black Ruby is commonly included in mixed or natives plantings, used in revegetation planting, trimmed into a hedge, grown for shelter or screening, or used to contrast with other plant colourings.
