Pseudopanax Fiddlesticks, Pseudopanax crassifolius Fiddlesticks, Lancewood Tree, Lancewood Fiddlesticks
Pseudopanax crassifolius Fiddlesticks is a variety of the commonly known Lancewood Tree and is a NZ native grown for its interesting foliage. It has a distinctive juvenile stage whereby it produces lance shaped leaves that are leathery with toothed margins. The leaves vary in colour from pink, red, and yellow and often have an orange midrib. As the plant matures the leaves shorten and the leaf colouring tends to become dark green. It grows to about 3 m tall and 1 m wide. Pseudopanax crassifolius Fiddlesticks is commonly included in a mixed or native planting, used to contrast with other, leafier plants, or included for its architectural appearance.
