Pseudopanax lessonii Nigra is grown for its vibrant and dark foliage. It has leathery leaves which are a deep mahogany colour. It typically grows to 2 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this shrub is achieved when it is grown on a well-drained site in full sun. In partial shade it tends to grow with an open habit. It is tolerant of wind, coastal environments, moderate drought, and frost once established.
