Ribes speciosum, commonly known as the Flowering Fuchsia, is grown for its lovely flowering. Through spring and into summer it produces clusters of red, fuchsia-like flowers which are held in a pendulous manner. These are borne off gently arching, prickly stems which also host the mid-green foliage. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance is achieved when grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It will tolerate frost and cool climates and, in these conditions, it may become deciduous, otherwise it will remain evergreen.
