Sambucus nigra Aurea, commonly known as European Elderberry, is a highly ornamental, deciduous shrub. It carries large, golden yellow leaves which are adorned with fragrant, white flower heads in summer. Purple-black berries follow the flowers and can be used to make elderberry wine. It typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide. Sambucus nigra Aurea makes a lovely specimen and is well suited to mixed plantings, cottage, and modern gardens, or using as a backdrop for smaller plants with the added benefit of Elderberries.
