Sarcococca orientalis is an evergreen shrub grown for its foliage and fragrant flowers. It carries glossy, dark green, leathery leaves which are adorned with tiny, fragrant, pale pink and white flowers from late winter through spring. The flowers are followed by glossy, black berries that may persist into the following winter. It typically grows to 60 cm tall and the same wide. Sarcococca orientalis is commonly included in mixed and border plantings, planted around the base of larger trees, grown around outdoor living areas, planted in shady areas, included in cottage gardens, or mass planted as a groundcover.
