Skimmia japonica is a handsome, evergreen shrub. It features mid-sized, glossy, dark green leaves held on a densely off short stems. The foliage is adorned through spring with clusters of small and showy, red-pink buds that open to reveal fragrant, cream-white, star-shaped flowers. It grows with a rounded shape to about 1.3 m tall and the same wide. Skimmia japonica is commonly included in a mixed planting, grown in a container, planted around the barbecue area, or grown as an informal hedge.

Skimmia japonica is a handsome, evergreen shrub. It features mid-sized, glossy, dark green leaves held on a densely off short stems. The foliage is adorned through spring with clusters of small and showy, red-pink buds that open to reveal fragrant, cream-white, star-shaped flowers. It grows with a rounded shape to about 1.3 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this plant are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site that does not dry out. It will tolerate moderate frost though should be protected while it establishes. Skimmia japonica is commonly included in a mixed planting, grown in a container, planted around the barbecue area, or grown as an informal hedge.
