Syringa Congo, commonly known as Congo Lilac or the Japanese Lilac Tree, is grown for its showy flowers from late spring through summer. During this time, purple buds open to reveal clusters of fragrant, single, purple-blue flowers. The foliage comprises dark green, heart-shaped leaves and develops yellow tones in autumn before falling, and grows to about 2.5 m tall and the same wide. Syringa Congo is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, included in cottage gardens, or used as a flowering hedge.
