“Bellicent” is a variety of Syringa grown for its showy flowers in late spring. At this time, purple buds open to reveal fragrant, soft pink flowers which are both stunning and great for attracting butterflies. The foliage comprises pale green, heart-shaped leaves which develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows upright with a somewhat loose habit to about 2.5 m tall and the same wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this plant is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of light shade, short periods of dry, frost, and cool climates. “Bellicent” is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, included in cottage gardens, or grown as a flowering hedge.
