Syringa vulgaris, commonly known as the Common French Lilac, is grown for its showy flowers from late spring through summer. During this time, it produces stunning clusters of pink flowers with an elegant fragrance. The foliage comprises fresh green, heart-shaped leaves which develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows to about 3 m tall and the same wide. Syringa vulgaris is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, included in cottage gardens, or used as a flowering hedge.
