Syzygium australe Tom Thumb, commonly known as Lilly Pilly, is a compact shrub grown for its dense form and colourful foliage. This selection features new growth which is bronze coloured and ages to become dark green. The lush foliage is held densely on short stems and complemented with small, white flowers during summer. This evergreen grows with a rounded shape to about 2 m tall and 1 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. It grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site, and will tolerate dry periods and moderate frost once established. Syzygium Tom Thumb is commonly trimmed into a hedge, included in a mixed planting, grown around outdoor living areas, or maintained in a container. It lends itself to topiary where it is often clipped into columns and balls.
