Tamarix chinensis, commonly known as Chinese Tamarisk, is a large, deciduous shrub grown for its flowers and foliage. From late spring through summer, it produces sprays of small, pink flowers. These are held at the ends of the arching branches which also host finely textured, narrow, green leaves as it grows to 5 m tall and 3 m wide. Tamarix chinensis is commonly used in coastal gardens, as a windbreak, as a backdrop for smaller plants, or added to a mixed planting in a large garden.

Tamarix chinensis Details

Tamarix chinensis, commonly known as Chinese Tamarisk, is a large, deciduous shrub grown for its flowers and foliage. From late spring through summer, it produces sprays of small, pink flowers. These are held at the ends of the arching branches which also host finely textured, narrow, green leaves. It typically grows to 5 m tall and 3 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this plant is achieved when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of coastal conditions, extended dry periods, low fertility, and poor soil conditions. Tamarix chinensis is commonly used in coastal gardens, as a windbreak, as a backdrop for smaller plants, or added to a mixed planting in a large garden.
