Commonly known as The American Cranberry Bush, this deciduous variety of Viburnum is grown for its flowers and colourful fruits. Showy clusters of white, lace-cap flowers are borne through spring and are followed by masses of red berries which are great for attracting birds and other wildlife. The dark green foliage is maple-like in appearance and develops impressive, red, yellow, and purple tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this plant is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site. It is a hardy plant that will tolerate dry periods, coastal conditions, frost, and cool climates. The American Cranberry Bush makes for an impressive specimen and is commonly included in a mixed planting or used as a backdrop for smaller plants.
