Loquat japonica is grown for its fruit, flowers, and foliage. It grows as an attractive tree carrying dark green, leathery leaves. The foliage is adorned with fragrant, white flowers in autumn which are followed by small, golden fruit in late winter to early spring. This evergreen typically grows to 6 m tall and 5 m wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. Loquat japonica makes for a great specimen and is commonly used as backdrop for smaller plants, for screening, or as an informal hedge; all with the advantage of fruit.
