Loquat Mogi is a variety of Loquat selected for its tasty fruit and ornamental value. It grows as an attractive, evergreen tree carrying dark green, leathery leaves. Woolly and fragrant, white flowers are borne in winter and are followed by golden fruit in summer. The fruit is firm and has a taste akin to a cross between an apricot and a plum. It typically grows to 5 m tall and 4 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. It thrives in a full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site with good moisture during dry periods and protection from frost. Loquat Mogi is a very aesthetically appealing tree which is important as it may take three to four years to produce fruit. On this basis this evergreen is ideal for a mixed planting to get the benefits of both fruit and a lovely tree.
