Guava, Yellow Guava, Lemon Guava
Psidium guajava is the variety of Guava that most people are familiar with and is a shrub grown for its foliage and fruit. It bears large, yellow, fruit amidst the lush, dark green foliage. These are produced in summer and can be eaten fresh as the skin is thin, and the pink flesh is juicy, soft, and tasty. It typically grows to 4 m tall and the same wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this shrub is achieved when it is grown on a well-drained, sheltered, frost free site in full sun. This Guava is commonly included in a mixed planting, grown for specifically for its fruit, added to a tropical garden, trimmed into a hedge, or used as a backdrop for other plants. The fruit is great for attracting birds into the garden.
