Agave americana Details

Agave americana, commonly known as Century Plant, Maguey, or American Aloe, is a large succulent that features broad, powder-blue leaves. The leaves radiate outwards, have a gentle arch, and some thorns. A long stem often emerges during summer from the centre of the plant to bear clusters of orange flowers. Ignoring the flower stem, it typically grows to 1.5 m tall and 2 m wide. It grows best when planted on a well-drained site in full sun, and is tolerant of extended dry periods, coastal environments, and moderate frost once established. Agave americana makes for an attractive specimen and is great for including in mixed plantings, using in rock gardens, adding to Mediterranean themed gardens, or planting to stop pedestrians passing through an area. It is often used to provide a great contrast with other plant colours and leaf forms.
