Crassula argentea, commonly known as the Jade Plant, is a popular succulent often grown as a house plant. It carries fleshy, green leaves with a dark red edge and yellow tones may develop if grown in full sun. Mildly fragrant, white flowers are borne during summer and sometimes during winter which give this plant a real elegance. This South African native will typically grow to 1 m tall and the same wide. It grows best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is largely drought tolerant and does not tolerate being over-watered. Crassula argentea is often used as a houseplant but can equally be grown outdoors provided it is protected from frost.
