Commonly known as the Trident Maple, this is a small tree grown for its colourful autumn foliage. The lush foliage emerges with light green with red tints in spring then ages to become glossy and bright green. As autumn progresses the foliage develops yellow and orange-red tones making the tree both striking and spectacular. This deciduous tree typically grows with a rounded crown to 12 m tall and 6 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of dry periods, frost, cool climates, and some wind. The Trident Maple is commonly used for avenue planting, grown as a specimen, or used to provide summer shade.
