Acer capillipes is a variety of Snake Bark Maple grown for its rich foliage and interesting flowers. Pendulous stems carrying green flowers are borne in summer and result in attractive pink fruits in autumn. The bark is smooth, olive-green, and has narrow, vertical, white stripes which gives rise to its common name. It typically grows to 8 m tall and 6 m wide with a rounded form, and performs best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. Acer capillipes is perfect for growing as a specimen tree in parks and larger gardens.
