Acer capillipes is a variety of Maple grown for its rich foliage and interesting flowers. The leaves on this deciduous tree emerge pink, age to mid-green, then develop red and yellow tones in autumn before falling. Pendulous stems carrying green flowers are borne in summer and result in attractive pink fruits in autumn. The bark is smooth, olive-green, and has narrow, vertical, white stripes which gives rise to its common name, Snake Bark Maple. It typically grows to 8 m tall and 6 m wide with a rounded form, and performs best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. This tree is perfect for growing as a specimen tree in parks and larger gardens. It is also well suited for avenue planting or to border an entrance.
