“Mikawa Yatsubusa” is an impressive Japanese Maple featuring a rich display of delicate foliage. Leaves on this deciduous tree are apple green and overlap in a systematic fashion. The result is a tree with a sculptural and near spherical form. The new foliage is light yellow-green, ages to green, then turns fiery red in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and 1 m wide, performing best when grown in full sun on a well-drained site. It will grow on a range of soil types and is tolerant of cool climates and frost. “Mikawa Yatsubusa” is a magnificent specimen well suited for mixed plantings, growing in a container, planting against a stark wall, or for using anywhere the spectacular colours can be enjoyed.
