“Okagami” is an impressive Japanese Maple that features a rich display of colourful and delicate foliage held on upright branches. Leaves on this deciduous tree emerge an intense red colour, age to develop purple tones through summer, then turn lovely shades of red in autumn before falling. It grows with a somewhat broad and rounded habit to about 4 m tall and 3 m wide though can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this tree are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frosts, cool climates, some wind, and will grow on a range of soil types, but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. “Okagami” is a magnificent tree and is ideal for including in a mixed planting, growing as a specimen, or for using anywhere the spectacular colour can be enjoyed.
