Acer triflorum Details

Acer triflorum, commonly known as the Three-Flowered Maple, is a medium-sized tree that features a rich display of colourful foliage. The leaves emerge green with a grey underside then develop impressive shades of red and orange in the autumn before falling. The bark is a light brown and constantly exfoliates which is an interesting feature. Clusters of small, yellow-green flowers are borne in spring. It typically grows with an upright and rounded habit to about 10 m tall and 7 m wide though can be trimmed as necessary. Best growth is achieved when planted in full sun on a well-drained, moderately sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates and will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. Acer triflorum is ideal for avenues, growing as a specimen, adding to mixed plantings in large garden, or for using anywhere the spectacular colour can be enjoyed.
