Afrocarpus gracilior, commonly known as the African Fern Pine, is an evergreen tree grown for its lovely form and attractive foliage. This upright tree grows to about 10 m tall and 4 m wide carrying narrow, mid-green leaves on pendulous branches. This gives the tree an almost weeping effect. Afrocarpus gracilior is an ideal tree for screening, as a shade tree, as a specimen, or adding into mixed plantings in a large garden.

Afrocarpus gracilior Details

Afrocarpus gracilior, commonly known as the African Fern Pine, is an evergreen tree grown for its lovely form and attractive foliage. This upright tree grows to about 10 m tall and 4 m wide carrying narrow, mid-green leaves on pendulous branches. This gives the tree an almost weeping effect. At the end of branches, it produces a fleshy, yellow cone that ages to purple-blue. Best growth is achieved when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of light frosts, coastal environments, and dry periods. Afrocarpus gracilior is an ideal tree for screening, as a shade tree, as a specimen, or adding into mixed plantings in a large garden.
