Alnus Barbata Details

Alnus Barbata is a variety of the Common Alder and is a reasonably fast growing, deciduous tree that can reach 25 m tall and 8 m wide. It carries dark green, rounded leaves which remain green well into autumn before falling. Small, nutlike cones become more apparent when the leaves drop and remain on the tree through winter. These residual cones, along with the attractive, dark brown, furrowed bark and multi-stemmed growth habit, make the Common Alder an attractive landscape specimen year-round. This tree does well beside rivers and streams or in marshlands and should be planted in full sun. It is tolerant of cool climates, frost, and moderate wind. The versatility of Alnus Barbata makes it a popular choice for growing as a specimen, for wind protection, or for avenue planting.
