Arbutus unedo Strawberry Tree

The Arbutus unedo Strawberry Tree is a medium-sized, evergreen tree grown for its foliage and colourful berries. Clusters of white, urn shaped flowers appear in spring and are followed by small, orange-red fruits in autumn which are great for attracting birds. The leathery, dark green foliage is lush and provides a lovely backdrop to the flowers and berries. It grows with an upright and compact habit to about 8 m tall and 4 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will tolerate wind, short periods of dry, and moderate frost but we do recommend protecting the tree while it is establishing to achieve a better formed plant. The Arbutus unedo Strawberry Tree is commonly grown as a specimen, used in avenue plantings, or added to a mixed planting in a large garden.
