Backhousia citriodora Details

Backhousia citriodora, commonly known as Lemon-scented Myrtle, is a medium sized tree grown for its impressive flowering. Scented, cream-white flowers are borne from summer through autumn and are great for attracting birds and bees. The flowers contrast nicely with the dark green foliage. The trunk is grey-brown and often flakes, giving an interesting patterning. It typically grows to 20 m high and 8 m wide though it can be trimmed to sizes much less than this. It prefers a full sun or semi-shade position and a well-drained site. Young trees can be frost tender but once established they become more tolerant. Backhousia citriodora is commonly grown as a specimen, included in a mixed planting in a large garden, or used in avenue plantings.
