Betula papyrifera, commonly known as the Paper Birch, is a deciduous tree renowned for its white, peeling bark and splendid autumn colour. As a young tree it is pyramidal in shape but then develops an irregular, rounded crown in maturity. Bright green leaves turn yellow in autumn and together with the white bark provide an impressive display as it grows to 10 m tall and 8 m wide. Betula papyrifera is well suited to large parks and large gardens. The wood of Paper Birch is often used for specialty products such as ice cream sticks, toothpicks, broom handles, and toys.
