“White Spire” is a white stemmed variety of Birch that grows with an upright, pyramidal habit. The foliage is lush, dark green and contrasts well with the white stems. As autumn progresses the leaves develop colourful golden tones before falling. Yellow catkins (small cones) are borne amidst the branches in spring and will generally remain on the tree into winter. This deciduous tree typically grows to 8 m tall and 5 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of coastal environments, cool climates, frost, and moderate wind. “White Spire” is well suited to large parks and gardens where it is often planted in clusters. It is also commonly used for screening and shelter purposes.
