Brachychiton populneus Details

Brachychiton populneus, commonly known as the Kurrajong tree, is a small to medium sized evergreen tree that grows to 10 m tall and 6 m wide. It carries glossy green leaves which give a glittery display in wind. Small, white, bell shaped flowers with pinkish dots appear in summer. It grows with a pyramidal shape when young and becomes wider and denser with age. It will grow on a wide range of habitats and soils, preferring drier sites rather than wetter ones. Brachychiton populneus is an under-utilised Australian native that has high drought tolerance coupled with an attractive broad-form that provides good shade coverage. It is a good landscaping choice for the contemporary urban environment.
