Rautini, Chatham Island Christmas Tree, Senecio huntii
Brachyglottis huntii, commonly known as Rautini, is a NZ native tree that grows up to 6 m tall and carries a status of nationally critical due to habitat destruction. It has green leaves that are covered in downy hairs that give the plant a silvery hue. It produces bright yellow flowers in summer. This tree prefers a hot, dry position in full sun to achieve maximum flowering. Brachyglottis huntii is commonly grown as a specimen, as an attractive filler in a mixed planting, in a coastal garden, or mass planted for a dazzling display.
