Casuarina glauca, commonly known as Swamp She Oak, is an evergreen tree growing to about 20 m tall and 6 m wide. It features slender, grey-green, needle-like foliage that is held with a pendulous nature off arching branches. This tree grows best in full sun on a well-drained site and is tolerant of wind, coastal conditions, frost, cool climates, and a range of soil conditions except at the extremes of wet and dry. Casuarina glauca is widely recognised as an important tree for stabilising riverbanks, reducing soil erosion, and makes for an effective screening and shelter tree. This tree can be trimmed as necessary and tends to bush up following such activity.
