Cornus kousa Southern Cross is grown for its impressive flowering and attractive form. Large and showy, white flowers adorn the tree in spring and are followed by red berries in autumn which are great for attracting birds. It grows with a narrow, upright, multi-trunked habit carrying dark green leaves. As autumn progresses the leaves develop impressive shades of red before falling. It grows with a rounded shape to about 3 m tall and 2.5 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and periods of dry once established.
