Coast Coral Tree
Erythrina caffra, commonly known as the Coast Coral Tree, is a large, flowering tree which is grown for its bright red flowers which make for a stunning display in winter. The flowers are borne before the green foliage emerges in spring. The flowers are rich in nectar which attracts both birds and insects. This deciduous tree typically grows to 12 m tall and 10 m wide, growing best on a well-drained site in full sun but can also be grown on heavier soils also. The Coast Coral Tree is often grown as a specimen in a park or large garden. It is perfect for providing bright colour during winter.
