It is a small, evergreen tree with lush foliage and clusters of crimson-coloured flowers. It typically grows to 8 m tall and 3.5 m wide, but can be trimmed as necessary. Eugenia caryophyllata is commonly grown as a specimen, added to a mixed planting, or planted specifically to harvest the flowers for producing cloves.

Eugenia caryophyllata (aka Syzygium aromaticum), commonly known as Clove Tree or Tropical Myrtle, is used to produce the commonly known spice, clove. It is a small, evergreen tree with lush foliage and clusters of crimson-coloured flowers. The flowers are ready for harvest and drying when they are red. It typically grows to 8 m tall and 3.5 m wide, but can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this Eugenia are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site that does not dry out. It is not suited to cold climates or frost prone areas. Eugenia caryophyllata is commonly grown as a specimen, added to a mixed planting, or planted specifically to harvest the flowers for producing cloves.
