It is a small, evergreen tree with lush foliage and clusters of crimson-coloured flowers. The flowers are ready for harvest and drying when they are red. It typically grows to 8 m tall and 3.5 m wide, but can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this Eugenia are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site that does not dry out. It is not suited to cold climates or frost prone areas. Eugenia caryophyllata is commonly grown as a specimen, added to a mixed planting, or planted specifically to harvest the flowers for producing cloves.
