Ficus macrophylla is a large, evergreen tree that is best known for its beautiful, buttress roots. Leaves are dark green and glossy. Purple fruits are produced in autumn which are great for attracting birds. It typically grows to 15 m tall and 10 m wide, growing best in full sun on a well-drained site and protected from frosts. The aggressive root system of this plant makes its use limited to large gardens only. Old specimens can reach tremendous size hence why it is widely used as a feature tree in public parks and gardens in warmer climates.
