Honey Locust
Commonly known as the Honey Locust, this is a deciduous tree grown for its impressive stature and foliage. It produces dark green leaves which develop impressive yellow tones in autumn before falling. The foliage is complemented with small, green-yellow flowers in late spring which result in interesting seed pods. It grows with a rounded and spreading crown to about 9 m tall and 6 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will tolerate frosts, cool climates, and coastal conditions but does require a degree of wind protection to avoid broken branches. This Gleditsia makes for a lovely specimen and is ideal for adding to a mixed planting, for avenue planting, or using to border an entranceway.
