Hamamelis x intermedia Details

Hamamelis x intermedia, commonly known as Witchhazel, is grown for its impressive flowering during late winter and early spring. Before the foliage emerges, it produces masses of unusual, fragrant, orange-yellow flowers across the entire tree. The foliage emerges green, remains this colour until autumn, then develops yellow, orange, and red colourings before falling. It grows as a broad and spreading tree with a flat top to about 4 m tall and the same wide, though can be contained with trimming as necessary. Best results with this plant are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and extended dry periods once established. Hamamelis x intermedia is commonly grown as a specimen, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, or planted anywhere the beauty of this tree can be appreciated.
