Harpephyllum caffrum, commonly known as Wild Plum or Sour Plum, is a small tree grown for its form, foliage, and fruits. Through summer it bears small, green flowers which result in green berries which age to red. The oval, palatable fruits attract birds and other wildlife into the garden. The fruits are set amidst the large, dark green leaves. This sub-tropical tree grows with a dense, rounded crown to about 8 m tall and 6 m wide, performing best when grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site.
