Hoheria lyallii, commonly known as Mountain Lacebark or the Houhere Tree, is a small, semi-deciduous tree that grows to about 4 m high and 2.5 m wide. The leaves on young trees are oval and toothed whereas on the adult they are broader and longer. White flowers produced in summer transform the tree into something quite impressive. Hoheria lyallii is an ideal tree for mixed plantings, growing as a specimen, or growing as a shelter tree.

Hoheria lyallii Details

Hoheria lyallii, commonly known as Mountain Lacebark or the Houhere Tree, is a small, semi-deciduous tree that grows to about 4 m high and 2.5 m wide. The leaves on young trees are oval and toothed whereas on the adult they broader and much longer. White flowers produced in summer transform the tree into something quite impressive. It grows best on a moist, well-drained soil in a full sun position. It will, however, tolerate dry and semi-wet soil conditions as well as coastal environments, frost, and cold climates once established. Hoheria lyallii is an ideal tree for mixed plantings, growing as a specimen, or growing as a shelter tree.
