Idesia polycarpa, commonly known as the Wonder Tree, is a deciduous tree grown for its foliage, flowers, and berries. Idesia polycarpa, commonly known as the Wonder Tree, is a deciduous tree grown for its foliage, flowers, and berries. It carries large, heart-shaped, dark green leaves which develop yellow and red tones in autumn before falling. Plants are either male or female and both sexes produce fragrant, yellow-green flowers in summer. However, only the female tree will produce the bright red berries. Large cluster of berries hang on the tree all winter and are great for attracting birds. It grows with a pyramidal shape to about 18 m tall and 8 m wide, though can be contained with trimming. This tree grows best when positioned in full sun on a well-drained site, and is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and moderate periods of dry.
